About Alyssa

Short Bio

Alyssa Satin Capucilli is the award-winning and New York Times best-selling author of more than 150 books for children, including the Biscuit series which has sold more than 54 million copies worldwide and is available in 12 languages. There are now more than 100 books in the Biscuit series. In addition to Biscuit, Alyssa has authored more than 50 books for children, including the Katy Duck series, the non-fiction My First Experiences Series, and many more. Alyssa also co-wrote the instant New York Times bestseller Willow the White House Cat with former First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden. Alyssa’s books have received the Washington Irving Award, the Garden State Award, the Bank Street College Best Book Award, and American Library Association Awards, among others.

Before turning to the printed page, Alyssa danced professionally in a modern dance company based in New York City, and taught dance to enthusiasts of all ages as well as professional dancers. Alyssa received her BA in Early Childhood Education and Literature from Sarah Lawrence College, where she also taught writing. Alyssa lives near New York City.

Alyssa Satin Capucilli is the award-winning and New York Times best-selling author of more than 150 books for children, including the Biscuit series which has sold more than 54 million copies worldwide. Used to launch the My First I Can Read Series from HarperCollins, there are over one hundred titles in the series about this iconic puppy. Biscuit has been deemed a modern classic and has been translated into a dozen languages worldwide. The New York Public Library noted that Biscuit is one of the library system’s most borrowed and most overdue books. In 2025, Biscuit was featured in School Library Journal’s, “12 Series librarians love and why.”

Before turning to the printed page, Alyssa danced professionally in a modern dance company based in New York City and taught dance to enthusiasts of all ages as well as professional dancers.  Alyssa’s love of dance is embodied in her series, Katy Duck, illustrated by Henry Cole. Her other work includes The Library Fish series, picture books, poetry, as well as the non-fiction My First Experiences series used for writing “how-to” books with the youngest readers including My First Soccer Game and My First Yoga Class.

Alyssa had the great honor of co-writing, Willow The White House Cat with First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden.  While speaking with Dr. Biden, Alyssa discovered that she and the First Lady shared a love of the moon.  “Sharing the same moon” became a defining symbol in the story of a kitten traveling from a small farm in Pennsylvania to her new home in The White House. Published in June 2024, Willow The White House Cat instantly became a New York Times bestseller.

Alyssa received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College concentrating her studies in Early Childhood Education and Literature. She is the recipient of the Washington Irving Award, the Garden State Award, the Bank Street College Best Book Award, the Oppenheim Portfolio Gold Award, Virginia Young Readers Award, Korean Morning Calm Award, and American Library Association Awards.  She has contributed to numerous publications including Renaissance Reading’s What Kids are Reading and has taught in the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College.  Alyssa lives near New York City.
